WHAT IS COCA?
Colony of Coastside Artists (CoCA) started with a realization that most artists work in isolation and rarely share their work with others
unless they sell at shows.
In 2009, Patt Sheldon invited Coastside artists to participate in show n’ tells, talk about their creative process, and network with each other. CoCA grew into 100+ artists of all levels and interests from Montara to Half Moon Bay. Members meet monthly to support and encourage one another. CoCA has had well over 200 artists of all mediums and levels over the years, the numbers ebbing and flowing much like the ocean.
CoCA artists specialize in every media: painting, mixed media, glass, ceramics, photography, textiles, jewelry, and sculpture. Open Studios is an off-shoot of the larger group for any artist on the coast who wants to participate, and welcomes the public to meet the artistic coastside community.
Our neighbors are often surprised and delighted as we “come out” as artists living nearby.
From CoCA Members:
“If CoCA were food, it would be the best macaroni and cheese you ever ate.”
“CoCA is a group of talented, committed, and friendly artists who get together to share their creative experiences.”
“Moving to the coast has been a wonderful experience, but joining CoCA has made it feel like I’ve come home.”
“CoCA is a group of talented and passionate coastside community of artists who welcome and mentor fellow artists at all stages of their artistic path.”
